It rains often and the temperatures rarely go above 25 degrees Celsius. (Or enough snacks if you are a cyclist or hiker!)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Appropriate riding gear for wet weather<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Camping gear, a tarp and the means to build a campfire.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are stores along the route, but every rider should carry food with them and the means to heat it up.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is plenty of good drinking water in the North Island but some may wish to use a filter.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-toggle-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-title-4463\" class=\"elementor-tab-title\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tab\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-4463\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon elementor-toggle-icon-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-closed\"><i class=\"fas fa-caret-right\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-opened\"><i class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-opened fas fa-caret-up\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"\" class=\"elementor-toggle-title\">Pre-Trip Check-Up<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-4463\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"3\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-4463\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Please ensure that your machine is up for the task with all maintenance done before you go.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Change oil\/ differential oil.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clean air filter.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check tire pressure, pack tire inflator\/ patch kit.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ATVs may want to add a throttle extender to help with thumb fatigue.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are few services on the North Island, so best be prepared!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-toggle-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-title-4464\" class=\"elementor-tab-title\" data-tab=\"4\" role=\"tab\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-4464\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon elementor-toggle-icon-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-closed\"><i class=\"fas fa-caret-right\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-opened\"><i class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-opened fas fa-caret-up\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"\" class=\"elementor-toggle-title\">Safety<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-4464\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"4\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-4464\"><ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Follow the &#8216;ride protocol&#8217; when entering a town; 30 km\/ hour on the roads marked on the permit. Keep in mind that this is the first ride of this type and we must set a good example.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of the North Island where the route is located does not have cell service; FRS or VHF radios are a good option for communication in your group.&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each <\/span><b>group<\/b> <b>must carry at least one <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the following:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&nbsp;a SPOT, inReach or a satellite phone<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-toggle-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-title-4465\" class=\"elementor-tab-title\" data-tab=\"5\" role=\"tab\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-4465\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon elementor-toggle-icon-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-closed\"><i class=\"fas fa-caret-right\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-opened\"><i class=\"elementor-toggle-icon-opened fas fa-caret-up\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"\" class=\"elementor-toggle-title\">Permits and Insurance<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-4465\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"5\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-4465\"><p>All ATV operators MUST scan and send the following documentation to:&nbsp;&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">MID-ISLAND ATV CLUB (president@miatv.ca) to be considered for the ride:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Valid driver\u2019s licence*<\/li>\n<li>Registration of off road vehicle with ICBC (plate or sticker)**<\/li>\n<li>&nbsp;Proof of 3rd party liability insurance of a minimum of 2 million (ie Capri).<\/li>\n<li>ATV operators are not permitted to operate between 11PM &#8211; 5AM.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; *Without a valid driver\u2019s licence, no permits will be issued.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; not need to send this documentation with their registration, however, they are still required to carry their licence and registration with them (as per the rules of the To ensure a safe and enjoyable adventure, please read the advice below and request a copy of the turn by turn directions.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<ul style=\"font-size: 16px; font-style: normal;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 16px;\">Before attempting this loop, make sure you have the GPS tracks\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">AND\u00a0<\/span>the North Island\u00a0Search and Rescue maps to ensure that your route knowledge is complete and up to date. There are 3 maps that cover the areas that North Island 1000 covers (pictured on the right) and they are available from www.crsar.ca or at Campbell River outdoor stores, such as River Sportsman or Tyee Marine.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; font-size: 16px;\">The Search and Rescue maps are also useful for planning side trips, as there are 1000s of km of side trips accessible from this route that aren&#8217;t included in the loop itself.
